Melang Village of Pai Town in Mainling County, Nyingchi City, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, located at the entrance of Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, is 98 km away from Mainling county, with an average altitude of 2,950 meters. There are rows of neat and beautiful Tibetan houses surrounded by green hedges in the picturesque Melang, which complements the beautiful scenery.

Melang is a relocated village. "The old village is located in a mountain, just like a village in a valley forgotten by people, hardly having contact with the outside world; villagers are mainly engaged in farming and animal husbandry. During rainy season, floods happen frequently, drowning our farmland and even causing house collapse," says Chimed Dorje, secretary of the village Party branch and director of the village committee.

In August 2015, after suffering a flood, county Party committee and county government of Mainling dispatched a working group to Melang Village to do survey and ask about local villagers' willings, then decided to build a new village and relocate. After careful research, current place, with open and flat terrain, incomparable geographical advantages and not very far from the old site, was finally decided to be the address of new village by the working group. In May 2017, the government invested 22.7472 million yuan RMB (accounting for 60% of the total investment), and villagers raised 3.2528 million yuan RMB. The construction project of a well-off Melang Village was officially implemented.

In the construction of a well-off village, Melang has built new Tibetan-style houses for 20 families, adhering to ecological construction concept and principle of "economic, applicable, livable". Besides, the village has planted peaches, willows and other trees alternately to enhance its greening and beautification; the project has been completed at the end of 2018. At present, villagers haven't completely relocated yet; Chimed Dorje introduces that it's planed to finish the whole relocation around November of this year.

Development after the relocation is Melang's problem. The village is next to a main traffic road of Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon and portal to its north bank, with unique geographical advantage. After extensively soliciting masses' opinions, the village Party branch decides to build an ecotourism experience area within the whole village, and develop an ecotourism featuring "good mountains, good water and good air", relying on local superior location advantage.
