Lhasa: social security system guarantees life of the elderly

Now there are 52,055 people over the age of sixty in Lhasa City, accounting for 10.8% of the city's population with registered permanent residence. To guarantee the life quality of the elderly, the social security system that integrates basic old-age pension, basic medical care, basic cost of living allowances, and medical assistance is already established.

By the end of 2017, there are 537,800 population with registered permanent residence in Lhasa City, and 52,055 people are over 60 years old, which means that the aging population is increasing year by year.

In 2018, the standard and scope of health subsidy for old people will be increased and expanded. People at the age of 70 to 79 can be listed under the category of subsidies, and the subsidy is 600 yuan per person per year. The subsidy standard of people at the age of 80 to 89 is enhanced from 450 to 1200 yuan per person per year. Subsidy for people at the age of 90 to 99 is increased from 750 to 2400 yuan per person per year, while subsidy for people at the age of over 100 is increased from 1200 to 3600 yuan per person per year.

To better guarantee the later life of the very elderly, on the basis of basic medical insurance for urban and rural residents, the civil affairs department of Lhasa City will actively carry out medical assistance. The medical assistance standard of Lhasa City is 100,000 yuan, and on this basis, another 150,000 yuan will be offered for special and serious diseases. In addition, through the "social assistance joint conference system", counties (districts) can study and solve relevant issues of special and serious diseases.

Besides, Lhasa City also actively carries out the standardization construction of welfare institutions and the centralized support for people enjoying the five guarantees.
