China hopes relevant countries will abide by the one-China policy and cautiously deal with Tibet-related issues, so as to ensure the healthy development of bilateral relations, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

Lu Kang said at a daily press briefing Tuesday that China is firmly opposed to any forms of contact between officials of any country and the 14th Dalai Lama.

He said China had taken note of a joint statement issued by the Czech president, prime minister and two parliamentary speakers, which emphasized that the EU nation respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China, recognizes Tibet as a part of China and that the individual behavior of some Czech politicians does not represent a change in the Czech Republic's policy.

Slovak politicians were also keen to make it clear their country's position had not changed, after Slovak President Andrej Kiska's recent meeting with the Dalai Lama.

"Kiska's move has clearly damaged Slovak-Chinese relations," Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said.

Lu said China hopes relevant countries would match their words with deeds, fully understand and respect China's core interests and cautiously deal with Tibet-related issues.
