Tibetan folk song sings, "the auspicious place of Tibet is Lhasa, and the auspicious place of Lhasa is in Yerpa; reaching Lhasa without visiting Yerpa is equal to making a new cloth without collar". "Yerpa" in the folk song refers to Drak Yerpa Monastery, one of the four most sacred places for hermits in Tibet.

Located in Dagze District of Lhasa City, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, Drak Yerpa Monastery is famous for its integration of caves and temples, and has a history of about 1500 years. According to legend, it is built in the 7th century AD by Songtsen Gampo.
