Tibet's tourism revenue reached 50 bln from Jan. to Aug.

Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region received 33.14 million tourists from both home and abroad in the first eight months of 2019, realizinga year-on-year increase of 19.6%. The number of domestic and inbound tourists to Tibet amounted to 32.9 million and 248,700, up 19.5% and 32.5% respectively compared with the previous year. Roughly 17.57 million tourists stayed for one-day tours, up 29.8% year on year. Total tourism revenue also rose 25.4% to 50.5 million yuan RMB. Tibet's inbound tourism achieved zero breakthrough in March.

During the period of "Winter Tour to Tibet, Sharing the Third Pole of the Earth" activity, Tibet welcomed 11.78 million domestic and foreign tourists, up 28.1% from a year ago. In particular, tourist groups in Tibet witnessed the record increase in reception, with a year-on-year increase of 127%. In addition, the self-guided tour became an important part of Tibet's tourism.

With the improvement of rural and leisure tourism, one-day tours became the new trend. The development of a series of tourism projects further enriched the system of Tibet’s rural tourism, including Dagdong Village, Dekyi Tibetan family inn, Yangbajain tourism, the leisure tour along the north ring road of Lhasa and the tour to Xigaze, Shannan, Nyingchi and Qamdo. In the first half of this year, the number of one-day-trip tourists in Tibet reached 6.17 million, up 34.9% year-on-year, accounting 46 % of the total number of tourists. One-day tour became a brand-new tourism experience, which was widely participated by Tibet's residents, too.

The Lhasa-Nyingchi high way and Tsethang -Gongkar high way opened to the traffic, which promoted the development of Nyingchi and Shannan. During the 2019 Nyingchi Peach Blossom Festival, there was a surge in the number of tourists from Lhasa to Nyingchi. It was even hard to book a room at that time. When the Dragon Festival came, Nyingchi launched a series of promotion activities for self-guided tours and formed a mode of "hotels + scenic spots + buses to attractions", attracting a large number of tourists

During the period of "Winter Tour to Tibet", the tourism facilities upgraded and the service system became more complete. In March, Tibet made a breakthrough in inbound tourism, with a total number of 854 inbound tourists. In the first half of the year, Tibet welcomed 118,600 inbound tourists, realizing a year-on-year increase of 53.5%. The inbound visitors brought a total of 78.69 million dollars in tourism revenue, up 44.2% year on year.  

Next, Tibet will promote the tourism by self-medias. In addition, the region is expected to upgrade the tourism market and consumption environment, and enhance the tourism convenience. Focusing on key tourism zones, lines, cities and scenic spots, the region will improve the construction of self-driving and RV camps, design "tour + sports" large-scale activities, host tourism competition and foster new economy growth points.

Moreover, Tibet will develop business startups and innovation of tourism, accelerate the construction of the incubator of tourism and culture industry, encourage middle and small-sized tourism and culture enterprises to participate in the business startups and innovation, and support farmers, herdsmen and college graduates in starting their own tourism business.
