| More than 5,000 travelers come to Tibet per day as of Feb. 28, according to figures released by the Lhasa Railway Station, major airline companies, and long-distance bus stations. Some 2,950 people enter Tibet by train every day from Feb. 28, most of whom were from big cities of Chengdu, Chongqing, Lanzhou, and Xining, according to Jia Nailin, deputy director of the Lhasa Railway Station. "The peak of migrant workers' arrival in Tibet is expected to last till the end of this month on the basis of the current and previous circumstances," Jia said. According to the Air China Tibet Branch, 1,500 passengers took its flights to Tibet on Feb. 28 alone. Afterwards, about 800 people arrived in Tibet by plane each day. A worker at the Air China Tibet Branch said that eight flights were added on Feb. 28, because more people returned to Tibet for work on that day. Apart from Air China, flights of other airline companies like China Southern Airlines and Sichuan Airlines are operating to the full capacity, carrying about a total of 700 passengers per day. In order to attract more passengers, all of the major airline companies have been improving their services. There were one or two long-distance buses taking passengers from Chengdu and Xining to Lhasa every day. Furthermore, long-distance buses from Lanzhou and Ge'ermu run to Lhasa occasionally, with all seats taken. A worker said that this situation was expected to last to May. |
