The second international border trade & cultural tourism festival will kick off on Oct.20 in Gyirong County of Xigaze, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

Gyirong means "comfort and happiness" in Tibetan. With a total population of 160,000, Gyirong County has been an important trade passage between China's Tibet and south Aisa since ancient times. In 2018, the county received 244,300 tourists, generating 167 million yuan RMB in tourism revenue. Its trade volume in border trade reached 3.4 billion yuan RMB.

The border trade & cultural tourism festival consists of four parts -- folk culture, border trade, tourism promotion and investment promotion. The folk culture activity includes art performance, food festival, bonfire party and hiking competition. In addition, a commodity fair will be held during the 6-day festival. More than 300 companies will display and sell their commodities, such as folk handicrafts, textiles, costumes and subsidiary agricultural products.

Gyirong County boasts beautiful scenery, long history and convenient geographic location, according to Dachun, deputy Party secretary of Gyirong County. Today, with convenient traffic, the county has almost 70 hotels. Next, it will accelerate the construction of a demonstration area for international trade cooperation.
