"Low elevation of the village, abundant water and grass were especially suitable for sheep breeding. In the past, villagers had no awareness of cooperative breeding, and adopted free-range breeding mode resulting in low economic benefits". Said a cadre of Sergola Village, Mainri Town, Bayi District of Nyingchi City, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

With the strong support of relevant departments at all levels in Bayi District, in 2014, Sergola Village applied for establishing farmers and herdsmen's sheep breeding professional cooperative, which was built and put into use in 2015.

The cooperative, covering an area of 6,000 ㎡, with a total investment of 1 million yuan RMB (including 800,000 yuan RMB of state investment and 200,000 yuan RMB from self-raised funds by the villagers) and a series of supporting facilities including sheepfold, fence, disinfecting tank and feed storage, was owned by the village collective.

Members worked together in the cooperative; every three people were put into each group being severally responsible for sheep feeding, epidemic prevention, disinfection and others. The cooperative adopted the "cooperative + farmer" model, provided breeding sheep, recycles adult sheep and lambs, and gave feed and technical guidance. By expanding sheep breeding scale, increasing sheep number and promoting sales, the cooperative helped villagers to get employed and increase their income. In 2018, the cooperative generated a profit of 200,000 yuan RMB; each household of the cooperative gained a dividend over 6,000 yuan RMB.
