Known as "hometown of Tibetan incense and carving", and located in the north bank of the middle reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River, Nyemo County lies about 120 km away from Lhasa, capital city of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. With an average elevation of 4 km, it is a characteristic plateau small county integrating the development of agriculture, industry, as well as service. There are 8 townships and 33 administrative villages under the jurisdiction of this county.

Nyemo, which means "ear of wheat" in Tibetan, has numerous good reputations such as "hometown of Tibetan language", "origin of Tibetan incense culture", and "Lhasa's granary". It also enjoys great popularity in the markets of other cities with ancient and mysterious ethnic culture, as well as agricultural and animal husbandry products.

In the 7th century, when Songtsen Gampo was in power, his minister Thonmi Sambhota created the Tibetan characters, imparted making skills of Tibetan incense to local people. As time goes on, the hardworking and intelligent people from Nyemo County had been carrying on the ancient inheritance of promoting Tibetan alphabet and the making skills of Tibetan incense.
