Kangding-Nyingchi Railway, a segment of Sichuan-Tibet Railway, will start construction in 2018 and is expected to be finished in 2025.

Sichuan-Tibet Railway, another "heavenly road" after Qinghai-Tibet Railway, links Chengdu, capital of China's Sichuan province and Lhasa, capital of China's Tibet Autonomous Region. The 1,838-km railway line runs through Yaan, Kangding, Chamdo, Nyingchi and Shannan. With an investment of RMB 216.6 billion, the Sichuan-Tibet Railway has a designed speed of 200 km per hour and 160 km per hour. The railway is divided into four parts (Chengdu-Yaan, Yaan-Kangding, Kangding-Nyingchi, Nyingchi-Lhasa), Kangding-Nyingchi segment of which is the last part of construction and the most difficult one.

Sichuan-Tibet Railway will shorten 100-odd kilometers to Tibet, compared with Qinghai-Tibet Railway. Chengdu-Yaan segment has begun construction since the end of 2014. Lhasa-Nyingchi segment started construction in July of 2015.

Kangding-Nyinchi Railway will start at Kangding Railway Station and cross Lithang, Bathang, Palyul County, Jomda, Pashod, Tangmey and finally arrive at Nyingchi. It not only connects the east and west of China's southwest region but also links the tourism circle of northwest of Sichuan province with China's Tibet.
