Gyaca's 8th Dakpo Cultural Tourism Festival

Recently, Gyaca County of Shannan City, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, holds its 8th Dakpo Cultural Tourism Festival.

Gyaca County is called "hometown of walnuts", with thousands of years of walnut trees planting history. Its walnuts are famous for thin shell, big fruit and good taste. It won silver award and excellent product award respectively at the 1st National Walnut Conference in 2008 and the 2nd China International Forestry Products Expo & the 4th China Yiwu Forest Products Expo in 2011.

In 2012, Gyaca County held its 1st Dakpo Walnut Festival in order to enhance popularity of local walnut, expand market share of characteristic agricultural and animal husbandry products, and broaden income increasing channels for farmers and herdsmen. According to the statistics, 106 buyers and sellers participated in the festival, with a total transaction volume of over 1.5 million yuan RMB.

At present, the cultural tourism festival has been held for 8 consecutive years. In addition to splendid opening ceremony, the county holds a series of colorful activities during 3-day cultural tourism festival, such as "featured Gyaca travel" and "original Gyaca" regional public brand conference, ethnic traditional sports competitions, as well as achievement exhibition on its development and construction. "It is my first time to participate in Tibet's cultural tourism festival, which is especially worthwhile. I not only felt the charm of Tibetan culture, but also tasted delicious food," says Mr. Li from Hunan Province.

Shilok Tsering, head of Gyaca County, introduces that "original Gyaca" aims at creating a group of local market management main bodies with characteristics, competitiveness, scale and cultural connotation, and improving overall added value of agricultural and sideline products, so as to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of agricultural and sideline industries, and boost the county to build a well-off society in an all-round way.

While inheriting the tradition, Gyaca County has injected new connotation into the cultural tourism festival. In Dakpo Culture and Art Center, local masses and cadres experience modern Gyaca's vitality by visiting local development and construction achievement photo exhibition, urban planning exhibition and intangible cultural heritage exhibition. "Over the years, Gyaca County has grown up so fast," says 72-year-old Kaldron, villager of Ngarab Town, "after looking at its planning map we have more confidence to its future." According to the data, this Dakpo Cultural Tourism Festival has received 200,000 tourists in total, bringing 180 million yuan RMB to local income.
