Nagqu Logistics Center, the world's highest logistic center, is expected to finish construction by this June, according to Yan Han, chief engineer with the headquarters of Nagqu Logistics Center.

Funded with about 1.5 billion yuan, the Nagqu Logistics Center covers 8,000 mu of land, sitting 5-kilometer south to the Nagqu Township. It is 7-kilometer-long and 1.5-kilometer-wide, ranking the highest logistic center in the world.

Undertaken by the China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCEG), it is able to handle all operations, such as custom service, industrial and commercial operation, tax affair, supervision and arrangement of information.

According to Yan Han, both the design and equipment are the best in China. They borrowed experience on building the Scientific Exploration Station in the South Pole to construct the center as specific climate factors like high altitude and strong wind were taken into consideration prior to the construction.

The logistic center includes three parts: the logistic center for bulk handling, producing and processing area and general logistic center. The general logistic center is the core of the whole center, being capable of transacting all kinds of cargos, like food, chemical fertilizer, building material and transportation and store of container. 

In 2007, the arrival and deliver of goods in Nagqu exceeded 600,000 tons and is estimated to reach 2.23 million tons by 2015.

The Nagqu Logistics Center started construction on September 28, 2007 and is expected to finishconstruction this June. 

Nagqu, known as "ridge on the top of the world" lies in high altitude of Tibet and is called "ridge on the top of the world" as Ngari Prefecture. Because of remote location, it is still unfamiliar to the outside, where only a few people have ever visited. Chinese famous writer Ma Lihua has unveiled the region's mystery and charm on her book "Travelling on Tibet" and introduced the feature and culture of Nagqu during 1980s and 1990s on "Ten Years of Nagqu".

Thanks to the running of Qinghai-Tibet Railway, which presents an unprecedented opportunity to the development in northern grassland of Tibet, Nagqu Prefecture has specially made a stride-forward in recent years.
